Eligibility criteria for the interest-free loan and grant programs are in bold:
Minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average AND Progress toward degree completion
Ask yourself, does my transcript reflect a clear focus about my educational goals? Can others tell that I have a plan about how I will achieve my goals? Do I have a satisfactory explanation about difficult semesters? What else would I like others to know about me that is not reflected in my grade point?
Demonstration of financial need
Loan awards are made to the most financially needy candidates. The Foundation will consider applications with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $12,000 or less. If you are unsure about the EFC, please follow the link, http://www.finaid.org/calculators/finaidestimate.phtml to estimate your family contribution. If your EFC is greater than $12,000 and you have extenuating circumstances such as job loss or illness, please call The Scholarship Foundation to discuss your situation. We will consider individual circumstances.
Strong character
Will a teacher, college professor or other faculty with whom you have established a prior relationship be willing to recommend you as a candidate for the loan program? Who else knows that you are on a serious path toward completing your degree? Are you able to describe your career goals and your plan for accomplishing those goals? Are you involved in extra-curricular activities? Have you had volunteer experiences? Do you have a history of responsible borrowing? Can you explain personal challenges and how you have been able to transform those adversities into opportunities?
