On May 10, The U.S. Department of Education will change the process of accessing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online by transitioning to a user-selected username and password system. Students will now be able to access their FAFSA information and application through their “FSA ID” to complete all necessary information to receive federal aid.
Please be advised there is no need for students to do anything or change anything regarding their FAFSA account information. “A user should simply be prepared to complete the transition [from student PIN to FSA ID] when they visit one of the impacted websites on or after May 10, 2015. Only the owner of the FSA ID should create his or her account,” according to Federal Student Aid officials. The websites that require an FSA ID include FAFSA on the Web, National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) Student Access, StudentLoans.gov, StudentAid.gov, and the TEACH Grant website.
