In an in-depth profile, Forward through Ferguson features Amber Overton’s work at The Scholarship Foundation as Senior Education Policy Intern. Amber spearheaded research and analysis of Bright Flight, Missouri’s merit-based scholarship, which culminated in a policy white paper garnering regional media attention in 2016. For the past two legislative sessions, Amber and her fellow interns have trained college students to meet with legislators and urge changes that could make Bright Flight more equitable. Their recommendations would improve access to the scholarship for Missouri students attending rural schools and under-resourced public schools whose student bodies are primarily low-income and students of color.
