Normandy alumni and area residents are collaborating with The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis to launch a scholarship initiative for graduates of Normandy High School. The Normandy High School Scholarship Fund will provide scholarship support for graduating seniors beginning in the 2016-2017 academic year.

For Jermaine Jackson, the new scholarship effort is a way of starting a new chapter for Normandy High School. “I graduated from Normandy 25 years ago. I’ve served my country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army and believe that it is time for me to serve St. Louis in some small way. Supporting and helping to start the scholarship fund for Normandy is another way of giving back. I believe the community is excited about being a part of this.”

Devin Tucker, a fellow classmate, agrees. Tucker attended Saint Louis University while eventually completing graduate school studies at Harvard University and now works as an executive at a Washington DC-based nonprofit. He sees the scholarship fund as a way to make an important economic investment in the school’s future and celebrate the success of its students. “It’s just been really hard to watch the saga involving Normandy. There are so many accomplished graduates from the school in St. Louis and across the country. We’ve got to get this right for the sake of the greater St. Louis community and ultimately the young people attending the school.” Recent media depictions about students in the district, particularly in the high school, attracted alumni attention and inspired this fundraising effort.

For The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, the Normandy High School Scholarship Fund is a way for the entire region to rally around Normandy students. “This is an excellent way for the community to help move Normandy forward supporting its graduates. We are glad to be a part of the effort and look forward to some great successes as a result of this opportunity”, said Faith Sandler, Executive Director for The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis.
